ABOUT THE CLASSES…

Restorative

Experience complete relaxation of body and mind. Restorative yoga is a gentle practice focused on engaging the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest & digest”). Poses are held for 5-15 minutes. Props such as blankets, bolsters/pillows, and blocks are used to fully support the body allowing total relaxation. This is a quiet practice with soothing music and minimal talking to allow you to fully decompress. Breathing techniques and guided visualization are occasionally used to enhance and deepen the relaxation response.

Yin

Yin targets the deep connective tissues in our bodies - fascia, ligaments, joints, bones - through floor-based poses held for 2-7 minutes. This is an excellent practice for flexibility and joint mobility. Yin is suitable for anyone, however those who are athletes or fitness enthusiasts may find it a perfect practice for an active rest day.

While a passive practice, it does employ some intensity due to holding poses in stillness for longer periods. Modifications of poses are always offered. Students will be guided to an appropriate edge by the instructor and encouraged to explore the deeper connection between mind and body that this practice can allow.

Vinyasa

Suitable for all levels, but particularly for beginners or anyone looking to slow things down a bit. This class practices common poses such as Sun Salutation, Downward Dog, Warrior Series, etc., but at a slower pace than a traditional Vinyasa flow class. Focus is on giving students the time to learn how to connect to their breath and to understand the poses and how they feel in their body. This is not power yoga, but will allow participants to build strength and flexibility over time and gives them a foundation to build and advance their practice in the future if they choose.
